    The Holcim Awards jury for region Africa Middle East chaired by Joe Addo met in Johannesburg, South Africa in June 2008 to select projects using the “target issues” for sustainable construction. Amer Moustafa is Professor of Architecture, School of Architecture and Design at the American University of Sharjah (AUS), United Arab Emirates and was a member of the Holcim Awards jury for Africa Middle East in 2014.

Amer Moustafa's teaching and research interests are in the areas of urban design and planning, city form and urban transformation, urban governance and culture, globalization and urban identity, and the democratic city.

He holds a PhD from the University of Southern California, a Science Master of Architecture Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Aleppo, Syria.

Before moving to the United Arab Emirates, he spent over 15 years in the United States in consulting, research, and teaching. He held teaching positions at the University of Southern California, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and CalPoly, Pomona. He also practiced architecture, urban design and planning in Boston, Los Angeles and the UAE.

He moderated the workshop Touristic Urbanism: between local and global at the 2nd International Holcim Forum 2007 in Shanghai.

Amer Moustafa was a member of the Holcim Awards jury for region Africa Middle East in 2008 and 2014.
