Reed Kroloff is also Principal of Jones-Kroloff Design Services, which, in addition to its own design work, advises a range of clients on architect selection and design strategy, including the Jose Vasconcelos National Library of Mexico, the Logan Center at the University of Chicago, the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County, New York City’s High Line, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Reed Kroloff is an independent architectural consultant and commentator. He was Director of the Cranbrook Academy of Art & Museum in Bloomfield Hills, MI, USA (2007-14), and Dean of Architecture at Tulane University in New Orleans (2004-07). He arrived at Tulane just before Hurricane Katrina and helped lead the School to recovery and prominence in the post-storm environment and played a significant role in the citywide planning and rebuilding efforts.

Reed Kroloff received a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University (1982) and a Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin (1986). He was a recipient of the prestigious Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome (2003). He was a lecturer of interior design at the University of Texas (1986-87) and he has served in various roles at Arizona State University (ASU) since 1989. At ASU, he received the first-ever “Award for Academic Excellence” from the Arizona chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He also practiced architecture in Texas and Arizona (1993-96).

He was Editor-in-Chief of Architecture magazine and a leader in professional design. Under his direction, Architecture received more awards for editorial and design excellence than any magazine of its type, and quickly became the country’s leading design publication. He serves on numerous boards and advisory councils, ranging from the United States General Services Administration Register of Peer Professionals to the Public Architecture Foundation.

He was a member of the Awards jury for region North America in 2005 and 2008; moderated the workshop Temporary Urbanism: between the permanent and transitory at the 2nd International Holcim Forum Urban_Trans_Formation held in Shanghai (2007); moderated the 2nd Holcim Roundtable for Sustainable Construction “Re-materializing Construction” held in Einsiedeln, Switzerland (2015); and was a Lab Operator in M-Lab dedicated to medium-scale projects at the 1st “Next Generation” Awards Lab held in New York City (2015). He also was the Conference Chair and a Mobile Workshop Expert at the 5th International Forum for Sustainable Construction dedicated to “Infrastructure Space” in Detroit, USA (2016).

Reed Kroloff was Head of the Holcim Awards jury for region North America in 2020.
