Zhiqiang Wu is Vice President and Founding Member of the China Green Building Council and Chinese Building Energy Efficiency Council.

His research interests include the urban spatial development strategy study for Shanghai, foreign investment in the Chinese building and construction industry, developing environmental assessment systems for the Chinese building industry, and sustainable development.

He received his BEng (1982) and Masters (1985) from Tongji University and his PhD (1996) from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany.

Zhiqiang Wu was Chief Planner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China and proposed the “H-city” (harmony city) scheme as the guideline for the planning and design at all levels to illustrate the Expo’s “Better City, Better Life” theme.

He is the Chief Planner of the Earthquake Placement Plan in Sichuan, and the Chief Planner or Consultant Planner of more than 11 major cities throughout China. He is project manager for more than 80 urban architectural design and planning projects in China such as: Shangyang development strategy plan; Zhengzhou tourism strategy plan; Sunqiao modern agriculture zone plan; and the Yili city urban design plan – and also in charge of significant eco-city plans and green building complex designs in more than 19 Chinese cities.

He has been involved in more than 30 design projects which are under construction or completed including: Chang Chun garden in Qingdao; Accor Hotel in Li Jiang;, Xingmin building, Shanghai; Ji Mo congress center in Qingdao; and the Shao Xing Si Qiao quarter.

Zhiqiang Wu is Co-Chair of the International Steering Committee of World Planning Schools Congress (WPSC), a permanent member of the UNESCO-UIA World Architectural Education Council, and former president of the Asia Planning schools Association (APSA) from 2003-2007.

He has published more than 180 articles on international and national journals and complied more than 32 books. His design and planning work has earned him 27 significant awards and his research 14 awards. He has been granted eight honorary titles domestically and internationally for his contribution to the transformation of the speed-oriented urban development in China to a sustainable-oriented one, and was recipient of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) honorary fellowship in 2013.

Zhiqiang Wu was the host of the 2nd International Holcim Forum 2007 in Shanghai and member of the Holcim Awards jury for Asia Pacific in 2005.
