3rd international Holcim Forum attracts broad global interest

Three-day sustainable construction symposium in Mexico City, April 2010
Zurich / Switzerland – February 24, 2010 – Several hundred applications to attend the 3rd international Holcim Forum for Sustainable Construction have been received from more than 50 countries on all continents. The conference for architects, civil engineers, urban planners, natural and social scientists and professionals from related disciplines will advance concepts on how construction needs to be re-invented and aligned with principles of sustainable development.
Under the title of “Re-inventing construction”, the Holcim Forum will be held at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and builds upon the momentum of previous events “Basic Needs” (hosted by ETH Zurich) and “Urban_Trans_Formation” (Tongji University, Shanghai). The symposium will feature opportunities for networking and discussion, stimulated by keynote speeches, workshops, panel sessions and a full-day excursion aligned with the workshop themes to sites in Mexico City.

Leading international speakers and a comprehensive program
Keynote addresses by internationally-renowned experts will include Amory Lovins (USA), Rocky Mountain Institute; Thom Mayne (USA), Morphosis; Jeremy Rifkin (USA), Foundation on Economic Trends; Michel Rojkind (Mexico), Rojkind Arquitectos; and Werner Sobek (Germany), University of Stuttgart.
Expert groups will advance concepts for a sustainable built environment in separate workshops on the topics of “Reduce CO2: With Technology to Zero Emissions”, “Play with Complexity: With Integral Solutions to an Economy of Means”, “Mine the City: With Logistics to Circular Metabolisms” and “Stimulate Stakeholders: With Incentives to Implementation”.
Excursions within Mexico City related to each theme will enhance discussions and illustrate questions related to “Re-inventing construction”. Themes will include: “Ecological south”, “Central city”, “Housing and infrastructure in the peripheries”, and “Social arrangements and infrastructure”.
