Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay)
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) was created by an Act of the Indian National Parliament and established on a site at Powai, a northern suburb of Mumbai in 1958.
The
IIT Bombay
is recognized as one of the centers of academic excellence for India. It is the second-oldest campus of the Indian Institutes of Technology system and the largest National Institute in the state of Maharashtra.
In its 50-year history, more than 34,000 engineers and scientists have graduated from the institute. The
IIT Bombay
is noted for its strong research groups in varied areas of science and technology that are making substantial contributions to national projects. Educational programs extend beyond the physical sciences and engineering into social sciences like English, philosophy, sociology, economics and psychology, including the recent School of Management.
There has been dynamic progress at
IIT Bombay
in all academic and research activities, and a parallel improvement in facilities and infrastructure, to keep it on par with the best institutions in the world. The
IIT Bombay
currently has around 450 academic staff, 2,300 undergraduate students and 2,500 postgraduate students.
IIT Bombay joins hands with Holcim Foundation
IIT Bombay has become the Partner University of the Holcim Foundation for the Asia Pacific region.
