Project update: Holcim Awards Acknowledgement prize 2008 Africa Middle East
Vele Secondary School is the joint-winner of the AfriSam-South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) Award for Sustainable Architecture. The project, completed in 2011, was highly commended by the jury for rejuvenating the planet while uplifting the community.

Project update: Holcim Awards Acknowledgement 2005 North America
The Northern Arizona University (NAU) Extended Campuses & Arizona Universities Network Building in Flagstaff received Platinum LEED certification in June 2010. The Applied Research and Development (ARD) building uses 43 percent less energy for lighting and air-conditioning compared to convention building of same size.

Project update: Global Holcim Awards Gold 2009
One of the three precincts of the prize-winning scheme is close to completion. As the project is implemented, water quality in the River Fez has begun to be restored and the northern part of the river which was previously paved over with concrete slabs has been uncovered.

The Holcim Projects section of this website reports on the progress of sustainable construction projects associated with the Holcim Foundation. The updates explain how projects have evolved from inspired ideas into tangible flagships of sustainable construction within the scope of:- Holcim Awards winners: innovative, future-oriented and tangible sustainable construction projects and visions
- Projects featured at previous Holcim Forums: seminars or symposiums on the topic of sustainable construction at the professional/academic level; and,
- Holcim Grants recipients: projects provided with appropriate financial support to enable the realization of outstanding construction projects and research, particularly for the benefit of disadvantaged communities.
The project updates also report on actual performance in comparison to that which was projected, and the extent to which further innovation or adaptation has taken place.
Projects are listed according to their location in each of five world regions: Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa Middle East and Asia Pacific.
