The Holcim Awards competition is based on a three-year cycle. Entries in the next Holcim Awards competition cycle will open on July 1, 2010.

Awards competition – what are the Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction?

The Holcim Awards is an international competition for projects that embody approaches to meet the present-day needs for housing and infrastructure without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs in times to come.

Awards competition – when will results of the Holcim Awards be announced?

Results of the regional phase of the competition (2008/09) were announced in September/November 2008. Results of the global phase of the competition were announced May 8, 2009.

The Holcim Awards competition operates on a 3-year cycle. The next Holcim Awards competition (3rd) will open for entries on July 1, 2010.

Awards competition – how do I find out more about the winning projects?

Downloadable PDF copies of project posters, jury appraisals and high-resolution images of all winning projects are available in the Holcim Awards section of this website. The Holcim Foundation publishes additional information in media releases and books about the winning projects and authors.

Business propositions – cement/concrete or construction industry

The Holcim Foundation is supported by, but independent of the commercial interests of Holcim Ltd, one of the world's leading producers of cement and aggregates. The Holcim Group also supplies ready-mix concrete and asphalt and provides related services.

Business propositions should be directed to either Holcim Ltd or, more appropriately, the local Holcim Group company in the respective country. A list of contact details for all Holcim Group companies is available on the Holcim Ltd website.

Employment – how do I apply for a position at the Holcim Foundation?

A small staff of professionals manages the office (administration, event management and communication) functions of the Holcim Foundation based in Zurich, Switzerland. Currently there are no vacancies or internships available. Any open positions will be advertised in the appropriate media including the Holcim Foundation's website.

The Holcim Foundation does not employ architects, engineers or other professionals from the building industry since its Technical Competence Center (c/o ETH Zurich) provides academic and technical support by developing, supporting, and implementing the Holcim Foundation’s initiatives on the scientific/technical level.

Funding – fellowships and grants

The Holcim Foundation does not provide any scholarships or fellowships.

The Holcim Grants initiative provides seed funding for buildings and grants for PhD research projects to accelerate progress and promote sustainable construction.

Funding – requests for sponsorship of conferences/seminars

There are no funds available to sponsor conferences, seminars, etc.

News – how can I stay informed of the latest news about the Holcim Foundation, its Awards competition and Forum?

The Holcim Foundation sends out announcements and media releases via email to all subscribers of its email newsletter. Sustainable construction – I have an idea/project in sustainable construction which needs financial support – what should I do?

The Holcim Foundation aims to select and support initiatives that combine sustainable construction solutions with architectural quality and enhanced quality of life beyond technical solutions, principally through the Holcim Awards competition. Entries in the next Holcim Awards competition (2010/2012) will open on July 1, 2010.

The Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction is dependent upon competent support, especially in the technical field. The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) operates as the global Technical Competence Center (TCC) of the Holcim Foundation and is supported by additional partner universities (see link below).

The Holcim Foundation aims to unite diverse global expertise and increase awareness of the critical role of the built environment in achieving sustainability.

A calendar of sustainable construction events acts as a networking tool listing events related to sustainable construction hosted by associations, universities, NGOs, IGOs and corporations worldwide.
