Markus Akermann is Chairman of the Management Board of the Holcim Foundation, and former CEO of Holcim Ltd.
He obtained a degree in business economics at the University of St Gallen in Switzerland in 1973 and studied economic and social sciences at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.
Markus Akermann began his professional career in 1975 with a Swiss bank. He joined Holcim in 1978, where he has held a number of positions in Latin America and international cement trading.
He became a member of the Holcim Executive Committee in 1993and was CEO from 2002 until his retirement in February 2012.
