Holger Wallbaum holds the Chair for Sustainable Construction, sponsored by Holcim at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), Switzerland. He was appointed to this position, as Assistant Professor for Sustainable Construction, in August 2006.
He is a member of the Technical Competence Center (TCC) of the Holcim Foundation.
His work focuses on building-related energy and material flows; life cycle analysis; and new construction materials adapted to different climate zones; indicator based sustainability assessment schemes on a building and settlement level as well as building park modeling.
Holger Wallbaum studied safety engineering and environmental management at the University of Wuppertal, Germany; safety engineering and risk management at the University of Mulhouse, France; and completed a PhD in architecture at the University of Hannover, Germany in 2002.
He gained professional experience in the fields of sustainability indicator systems and management tools for decision support and communication.
Holger Wallbaum is a member of diverse international boards and has been an advisor at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy (1995-2002); a co-founder and managing partner of triple innova, Germany, specializing in corporate social responsibility and sustainability reporting, since 2002. He became executive manager of mipsHAUS-Institute for Sustainable Construction, Germany in 2004.
Holger Wallbaum was a member of the Holcim Awards jury for region Africa Middle East in 2008. He moderated the workshop Stimulate stakeholders - With incentives to implementation at the 3rd International Holcim Forum 2010 in Mexico City.
