Elmar Ledergerber

Elmar Ledergerber is Mayor of the City of Zurich, Switzerland.

From 1998 to 2002 he was Zurich city council member responsible for the city’s building construction department.

From 1987 to 1998 he was a member of the Swiss National Council (House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament).

Before entering politics he worked as a consultant for 27 years in the energy and environment fields.

He studied history and social science at the University of Freiburg, Germany. At the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, he studied international economics of developing countries.

From 1977 to 1994 he was a partner at INFRAS, Zurich, a consulting company for infrastructure, environmental and economic issues. From 1994 to 1998 he managed his own company, Econcept, economic and political consultants for business, ecology and infrastructure development.

He has been involved in development projects in Bangladesh, Bolivia, Bhutan, Madagascar and Nepal. He is President of the Swiss development organization Intercorporation.
