Klaus Sedlbauer is the Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics in Stuttgart and Holzkirchen, Germany.

He is also Chair of Building Physics and Head of the Department Life Cycle Engineering (Ganzheitliche Bilanzierung – GaBi) at the University of Stuttgart.

Klaus Sedlbauer studied physics at Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich (1986-1992); diploma thesis: Pre-warming of indoor air by means of a ground-air heat-exchanger. He then completed his PhD at the University of Stuttgart (2001); doctoral thesis: The prediction of mould fungus growth on and in building elements.

From 1992-2001 he worked as a scientific assistant and group manager at the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics in Stuttgart and Holzkirchen. In 2000 he was appointed deputy head of department for the field hygrothermics, focusing mainly on outdoor and laboratory testing and also computer model calculation.

From 2001-2003 Klaus Sedlbauer was appointed deputy director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics, Holzkirchen Branch. During the summer semester of 2003 he also worked as a professor at the University of Applied Science in Rosenheim, Germany.

He was a member of the Holcim Awards jury for region Europe in 2008.
