Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction - Nathalie de Vries Architect, Netherlands

Nathalie de Vries is a principal architect and founder of Rotterdam-based architecture, urbanism and landscape design practice MVRDV. The firm was set up in 1991 by Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries after they won the first prize in the Berlin European Competition.

Realized projects include the Dutch Pavilion for the World Exhibition 2000 in Hanover, an innovative business park Flight Forum in Eindhoven, two Houses at Borneo Sporenburg in Amsterdam, and the futuristic installation Metacity/Datatown.

Nathalie de Vries studied architecture at the Delft University of Technology, receiving her diploma with honors in 1990.
Nathalie de Vries has worked with Martinez Lapenas & Torres Arquitectos (Barcelona), D.J.V. Architects (Rotterdam) and Mecanoo Architects (Delft).

In addition, she is Railroad Architect for ProRail/NS, the firm responsible for managing the Dutch railway network. She has been guest professor at the Berlage Institute, the Academy of Building Arts in Arnhem, the Delft University of Technology and the University of Technology (TU Berlin).

She is also a member of the board of the Netherlands Fund for Architecture and co-editor of the book Eating Brazil.

She was a member of the Holcim Awards jury for region Europe in 2008.
