Amer Moustafa is Associate Professor of architecture at the School of Architecture and Design at the American University of Sharjah (AUS), United Arab Emirates. He currently serves as Director of Graduate Studies, Scholarship and Outreach and is Director of the Institute of Urban and Regional Planning and Design, an interdisciplinary research and advocacy unit at AUS.
His teaching and research interests are in the areas of urban design and planning, city form and urban transformation, urban governance and culture, globalization and urban identity, and the democratic city.
Moustafa holds a PhD from the University of Southern California, a Science Master of Architecture Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Aleppo, Syria.
Before coming to the UAE, he had spent over 15 years in the United States in consulting, research, and teaching. He held teaching positions at the University of Southern California, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and CalPoly, Pomona.
