Simon Upton, Chairman of the OECD Round Table on Sustainable Development and Member of the Advisory Board of the Holcim Foundation, New Zealand provided a keynote address in which he referred to his own house in New Zealand and the problems encountered in trying to make it live up to standards of sustainable construction with regard to insulation and energy supply. |

| Ashok B Lall, Principal and founder of Ashok B Lall Architects of New Delhi and representative of the Holcim Awards juries introduced the winning project. “The silver award winning project from Vietnam is about creating an infrastructure for education – by using technology and creating spaces that evolve from a natural environment.” |

| Markus Akermann, Chairman of the Management Board of the Holcim Foundation and CEO of Holcim Ltd, Switzerland, commented that the competition entries reflected the importance of international cooperation in developing solutions to the demanding challenges of sustainable construction. “Exploring sustainable approaches for the built environment is best achieved through innovation and leveraging the broad perspectives of international project teams – as this project clearly illustrates.” |
