The diverse winning projects show that world-class sustainable construction solutions not only consider environmental impact but also deliver economic and social performance, architectural quality, and break-throughs that can be effectively transferred to other projects.

July 16, 2009 – A comprehensive and long-term plan to rehabilitate the Medina of Fez received the Global Holcim Awards Gold 2009 and USD 300,000 in prize money at a ceremony in Fez, Morocco.

Book announcement - Second Holcim Awards - Sustainable Construction 2008/2009
June 1, 2009 - The newly-published book presents innovative approaches and integrated solutions that meet societal needs, address environmental performance and improve economic efficiency.

The Holcim Awards is an international competition of the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction. The competition celebrates innovative, future-oriented and tangible sustainable construction projects and visions from around the globe and provides prize money of USD 2 million per three-year competition cycle.

The main Holcim Awards category is open to professionals from architecture, landscape and urban design, civil and mechanical engineering and related disciplines. The "Next Generation" category promotes the visions of young architects and designers up to the age of 35.

The third Holcim Awards competition cycle will open for entries July 1, 2010.
