Designing purposeful shifts in the material culture of production and use

The second Roundtable for Sustainable Construction dedicated to “Re-materializing Construction” aimed to develop strategies at two scales: material use in individual buildings and the logistical chains distributing these materials across regions.

The two-day Roundtable was held at the Bibliothek Werner Oechslin, Einsiedeln, Switzerland in July 2015. The Roundtable expert workshops are positioned to compliment the Forum for Sustainable Construction that takes place every three years. The goal of the Roundtables is to bring together experts from different fields to devise a clear agenda for retooling and reorienting construction towards a more sustainable future.

The second Roundtable for Sustainable Construction was moderated by former Director, Cranbrook Academy of Art & Art Museum, Reed Kroloff (USA). Strategies for enhancing the sustainability of materials use in individual buildings and across logistics chains were developed by experts in the fields of architecture, ecology, materials science, sustainable development and related disciplines. from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, India, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, and the USA.
