Each building, however small, has many systems talking to each other. For instance, a building’s envelope affects its air conditioning needs, which in turn impacts its energy loads. Balancing these pulls and pushes is key to a space’s performance and quality of experience. As Holcim Awards 2023 Gold winners, two projects – Infinito Delicias for the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation (formerly entitled El 17. Composition of Knowledge House) in Madrid, Spain and 1925 Victoria Park Ave in Toronto, Canada – exemplify multisystemic design with strong metrics and a compelling human-centric focus.
