CLUAA is a research-based design office operating at the intersection of architecture, landscape, and planning. Its work comprises of projects for city and non-for-profit clients; competitions and grant funded research delivered across multiple formats including design proposals, installations, articles, edited journals and books.

Clare Lyster is also an Associate Professor at the School of Architecture, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) where she teaches seminars and studios on landscape and globalization, examining how these are positioned in architectural theory and design practice. She has also taught at Syracuse University, the University of Toronto, and Harvard University.

She writes about architecture and urbanism from the perspective of contemporary theories in landscape, infrastructure and globalization. Her current work focuses on the relationship between logistics and architecture.

Her publications include Learning from Logistics: How Networks Inform Cities (Birkhauser, 2015); she edited Envisioning the Bloomingdale: 5 Concepts (Chicago Architecture Club, 2009) and co-edited 306090 Vol. 09 Regarding Public Space (Princeton Architectural Press, 2005). She has published articles in Cabinet, Chicago Architect, the Journal of Architectural Education, the Journal of Landscape Architecture, MONU, the Architects Newspaper and Places.

She is a registered architect in New York and Illinois and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University College Dublin, Ireland and a Masters of Architecture from Yale University.

Design work produced by her firm, CLUAA has been exhibited locally and internationally including the Art Institute of Chicago and University College Dublin and has been funded by the Arts Council of Ireland, the UIC College of Architecture, Design & The Arts, and the Graham Foundation.

Clare Lyster was a workshop expert at the 5th International Holcim Forum for Sustainable Construction dedicated to “Infrastructure Space” held April 7-9, 2016 in Detroit, USA.
