Carlos Zarco Sanz and Zuhal Kol sat down with the Holcim Foundation to discuss their Holcim Foundation Awards winning work that focuses on ecosystem regeneration and urban re-engagement for the agricultural town of Tuzla, near Istanbul.
The project creates a continuous green corridor, connecting fragmented green spaces to form an ecological backbone. It provides access to schools, public buildings, and amenities via pedestrian and bike paths, allowing residents to meet their daily movement, sports, and social needs, while also enabling inter-neighbourhood mobility.
The design advocates for abandoning disconnected and standardized architectural models in favor of designs that are contextually responsive and adaptable to the unique conditions of the area.
