Michael Osman is an Assistant Professor of Architectural History in the Department of Architecture & Urban Design (A.UD) at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), USA.

He teaches courses in the history and theory of modern architecture, and his research focuses on the technological, environmental, and economic aspects of architectural history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. His work has been supported by fellowships from the University of California Humanities Research Institute, the National Science Foundation and the Fulbright US Student Program.

Michael Osman obtained a BA in History from The University of Chicago (1998), an MA (I) in Architecture (2001) and a PhD in Architectural History both from Yale University (2008).

He has written “Banham’s Historical Ecology” in Neo-Avant-Garde and Postmodern: postwar architecture in Britain and beyond (Yale Center for British Art, 2010); “Architecture ad Absurdum” in Log 22: The Absurd (Spring/Summer 2011); “The Managerial Aesthetics of Concrete” in Perspecta 45: Agency (MIT Press, 2012); “Listening to the Cooler: Taking the temperature with the thermophone” in Cabinet 47: Logistics (Fall, 2012), and “Preserved Assets” in Governing by Design: Governing by Design (Univ Pittsburgh Press, 2012).

He was previously a Lecturer in the School of Architecture at Yale University (2006-08). He is a founding member of the Aggregate Architectural History Collaborative.

Michael Osman was a workshop expert at the 5th Holcim Forum 2016 on “Infrastructure Space” held in Detroit, USA.
