The results of the Holcim Awards competition have moved a step closer following the jury meetings held in five regions of the world. From almost 2,000 submissions out of approximately 5,000 competition entries that met the formal requirements of the competition, each jury panel of independent, regionally-renowned representatives from science, business and society selected projects which met the “target issues” for sustainable construction in the most compelling way.

“Jury members were truly enthused by the scope and innovation of projects submitted in the competition,” said head of the regional jury for Asia Pacific, Ashok B Lall (India).
“The ‘target issues’ provided an important framework for evaluating diverse projects and their approaches to technological, environmental, socioeconomic and cultural issues affecting building and construction”, he said.
Verification – the next hurdle for nominees
All projects nominated by the five regional juries are being verified by the Technical Competence Center (TCC c/o ETH Zurich) of the Holcim Foundation.
“Verification is an important step in the selection process because it ensures that submissions accurately represent each project or vision and comply with the rules of the competition”, said head of the TCC, Hans-Rudolf Schalcher (Switzerland).
“We want to ensure that the projects awarded represent the state-of-the-art for sustainable construction, which helps us to promote exemplary approaches to the challenges for the building and construction industry,” he said.
