Tsinghua University (THU) hosted Erwin Viray, Professor of Architecture & Design, Kyoto Institute of Technology, Japan and Editorial Associate at a+u, who introduced the Holcim Awards competition to students from Tsinghua’s architecture and urban planning schools, and members of China Architecture Design & Research Group and Beijing Institute of Architectural Design.

The University of Melbourne is a partner university of the Holcim Foundation and will host a keynote address and panel discussion Between Green & Sustainable: Emerging Ideas for Asia & Australia, featuring internationally renowned advocate for sustainable architecture, Nirmal Kishnani, (National University of Singapore) in February 2014.
The American University of Beirut, Lebanon, Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, and University of Melbourne, Australia have joined the partner universities network of the Holcim Foundation. Drawn from around the world, the partner universities provide technical support to the Holcim Foundation, support the promotion of the Holcim Awards competition, and host Holcim Forums and Awards jury meetings.

The American University of Beirut (AUB – الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت) is a private, secular, and independent university in Beirut, Lebanon, and is ranked as the number one university in Lebanon. The universities join a select group of the world’s leading technical universities to partner the Holcim Foundation including the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich and EPFL in Lausanne), Switzerland; Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, USA; Tongji University in Shanghai, China; Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil; University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa; Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, Mexico; Ecole Supérieure d’Architecture de Casablanca, Morocco; and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) in Mumbai, India.
In addition to the support of its partner universities, the Academic Committee (AC) of the Holcim Foundation, based at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, provides academic and technical support by developing, supporting, and implementing the Holcim Foundation’s initiatives on the scientific and technical level. The members of the Holcim Foundation Academic Committee are: Marc Angélil (Head), Senior Dean, Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich; Harry Gugger, Professor of Architectural & Urban Design and Head, Laboratoire Bâle (laba), EPFL; Guillaume Habert, Professor of Sustainable Construction, ETH Zurich; Hansjürg Leibundgut, Professor of Building Systems, ETH Zurich; Brigitte Cuperus, Project Manager & Awards Juries Coordinator, Holcim Foundation; and Laila Seewang, AC Scientific Coordinator, Studio Director, Atelier de la conception de l’espace , EFPL.
The Holcim Foundation promotes sustainable responses to the technological, environmental, socioeconomic and cultural issues affecting building and construction at the national, regional and global levels. It is supported by Holcim Ltd, one of the world’s leading suppliers of cement and aggregates, and its Group companies in 70 countries, and managed by an independent Board of specialists from six countries.
The Foundation’s activities include regional and global Holcim Awards competitions for sustainable construction projects and visions, offering prize money of USD 2 million every three years. The 4th Holcim Awards competition is open for registrations until March 24, 2014 at www.holcimawards.org.
