Arno Brandlhuber holds the Chair of Architecture & Urban Research at the Academy of Fine Arts, Nuremberg (Akademie der Bildenden Künste – AdBK), Germany and directs the nomadic Master’s program a42.org. He is co-founder of the public seminar Akademie c/o, and conducts research on the spatial production of the Berlin Republic.

He is John T Dunlop Design Critic of Housing & Urbanization at Harvard University in Boston, USA.

Together with Markus Emde and Thomas Schneider, he leads the Brandlhuber+ Emde, Schneider Architects Association. The office represented Germany several times at biennials of architecture in Venice and São Paulo, ArchiLab (2001 and 2002), and has been awarded numerous national and international prizes including the German Architecture Award. For more than a decade, his cultural practice reaches beyond architecture and urbanism in order to politicize issues of private and collective property, sustainable economy and social cooperation.

He studied architecture and urban planning (1984-92) at the Technical University of Darmstadt (TH Darmstatd), Germany and Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italy.

He is the subject of Brandlhuber+: Von der Stadt der Teile zur Stadt der Teilhabe. Berliner Projekte [From the City of Parts to the City of Participation: Berlin Projects] (Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther Konig, 2013).

Arno Brandlhuber was a member of the Holcim Awards jury for region Europe in 2014.
