A call for papers has been issued for the second Holcim Forum under theme "Urban_Trans_ Formation" to be held in Shanghai, China on April 19/21, 2007. Sponsored by the Holcim Foundation, the symposium provides a platform for scholars and practitioners from the fields of architecture, urbanism, engineering and other related disciplines to debate and share innovation regarding sustainability of the built environment.

The Holcim Forum will include workshop sessions that aim to encourage the exchange of experience and forge new approaches to sustainable construction. The themes of the Holcim Forum 2007 are:


  • Normative urbanism
  • Informal urbanism
  • Green urbanism
  • Touristic urbanism
  • Temporary urbanism

A call for papers was launched by the Technical Competence Center of the Holcim Foundation, led by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). Interested academics/professionals are requested to submit a short (max. 1000 characters) abstract of the proposed content of their paper, describing its content and relevance to one of the workshop themes.

Abstracts may be submitted online by May 31, 2006. The proposals will be reviewed by an Academic Committee comprising of leading academics, architects and engineers. Authors of papers selected will be notified by July 15, 2006, and required to submit a final paper by September 30, 2006.

Authors of papers selected will be invited to the Holcim Forum as guests of the Holcim Foundation. Travel, accommodation and registration fees will be covered by the Holcim Foundation.
