Some 250 guests representing 140 companies in 20 countries attended a full-day event organized by Holcim including presentations and workshops dedicated to the topic of “Building Asia together” at the iconic Marina Bay Sands convention center in Singapore. Keynote addresses included a speech by renowned architect, and Global Holcim Awards finalist, Ken Yeang of T R Hamzah & Yeang International in Malaysia on “Creating a sustainable construction ecosystem for Asia.”

The projects that received Holcim Awards Gold, Silver, or Bronze in each of the five regions of the world were automatically qualified to compete for the Global Holcim Awards 2012. Winners of the Holcim Awards for sustainable construction projects and visions from Asia Pacific have been announced, bringing the regional phase of the 3rd International Holcim Awards competition to a close. A total of USD 300,000 was presented to twelve groundbreaking projects at a ceremony in Singapore. The winning projects show how sustainable approaches to infrastructure for communities and innovative architecture can improve the built environment and enhance quality of life.

The jury considered this project an imaginative and leading-edge response to upmarket building design. The well balanced, detailed and pinpointed combination of high-tech elements with the functional integration of vegetation demonstrates a complex holistic approach to creating a high-class living space that is responsive to the local climate.

The 14-level commercial and retail building is located on the main boulevard of Malaysia’s planned city and federal administrative center, Putrajaya, 25km south of the capital, Kuala Lumpur. The building concept is based on a sophisticated, well-elaborated and integrative merger of eco-friendly state-of-the-art technologies appropriate for high quality use. The two towers are interconnected by a public atrium and pedestrian bridge, and with the shaping of the building masses producing a well-formulated urban space with an inviting atmosphere.
