Soumen Maity is the Senior General Manager and Assistant Vice President at Development Alternatives (DA) based in New Delhi, India.

DA is the world’s first social enterprise dedicated to sustainable development, is a research and action organisation striving to deliver socially equitable, environmentally sound and economically scalable development outcomes.

He leads the Technology Management business of Technology & Action for Rural Advancement (TARA) within the DA Group. He leads the incubation of developed technologies at TARA. His expertise lies in the building material sector wherein he has been instrumental in exploring commercial approaches to utilization of industrial waste, improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental emissions.

His sectors of interest include industrial waste utilisation, resource efficiencies of small-scale technologies, alternate building materials and technologies in producing them and water purification systems. He undertook feasibility studies for the introduction of cleaner brick production practices in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal and Vietnam.

He has also successfully transferred home grown Indian technologies to Asia and Africa supporting them in development process.

He studied materials science and obtained a PhD in Materials Science from the Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CSIR).
