Emilio de la Cerda is Chair of the Department of Cultural Heritage at the Catholic University of Chile (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile - PUC) and was a member of the Holcim Foundation Awards 2017 jury for Latin America.

Between 2018 and 2022, he was Deputy Secretary of Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, in addition to serving as president of the Council of National Monuments of Chile.

In his professional practice, as a partner of the firm OWAR Arquitectos as well as independently, he has developed public and private projects, which have been published in various specialized media and exhibited in different disciplinary instances. He is co-author of the Quinta Monroy project in Iquique, the first housing complex developed by the ELEMENTAL initiative. Between 2011 and 2014, he served as executive secretary of the Council of National Monuments of Chile.

He was Director of the School of Architecture of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2014-18).
