Sven Stremke is Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

His research focuses on sustainable landscapes with special attention to renewable energy.

He launched the NRGlab, a laboratory devoted to research on energy transition and design of sustainable energy landscapes, with Renée de Waal in 2012.

Sven Stremke obtained a DipIoma in landscape architecture from the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, Germany (2001), and an MA in landscape architecture from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, Germany (2006). He completed his PhD at Wageningen University, the Netherlands (2010) with his thesis: Designing Sustainable Energy Landscapes: Concepts, Principles and Procedures. The objective of his dissertation was to advance the planning and design of sustainable landscapes by examining science-based design concepts (substantive knowledge) and means to organize the design process (procedural knowledge). All of his scientific work is published in peer-reviewed papers.

He edited Sustainable Energy Landscapes: Designing, Planning and Development together with Andy van den Dobbelsteen (CRC/Taylor & Francis, 2012). Since 2011, he has supervised several doctoral thesis projects on sustainable energy landscapes both in the Netherlands and internationally.

Sven Stremke joined the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (AMS) in 2014 as Principal Investigator for energy from Wageningen University (part-time), and coordinates one of the first three kick-start projects supported by the AMS Institute (Urban Pulse).

Together with his colleagues from the NRGlab, he is also conducting research on energy transition in the Parkstad Limburg region (PALET) and involved in research on the long-term transformation of the Dutch-Flemish delta (Lage Landen).

Sven Stremke was a workshop expert on sustainable energy landscapes in the Netherlands, at the 5th International Forum for Sustainable Construction dedicated to “Infrastructure Space” held April 7-9, 2016 in Detroit, USA.
