Ted Flato founded Lake|Flato Architects with David Lake in 1984 and has since received wide acclaim for his straight-forward regional designs, which incorporate indigenous building forms and materials that respond to the context of their landscape.
By applying sustainable strategies in a wide variety of building types and scales, he seeks to conserve energy and natural resources while creating healthy built environments that are sensitive to the local climate.
His commitment to sustainable environments does not end with his designs. He lectures across the USA on subjects including healthy buildings and sustainable strategies. Recent publications from Lake|Flato include Lake|Flato Houses: Respecting the Land (Rizzoli, 2021) and Lake|Flato: Nature, Place, Craft & Restraint (University of Texas Press, 2020).
He received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Stanford University (1977).
