Carlos Bühler studied business management at INSEAD; the International Institute for Management Development (IIMD) in France; Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, USA; and the Universität St Gallen, Switzerland.

Carlos Bühler held various business management positions before joining the Holcim Group in 1984. His career included positions in Brazil, Mexico, Switzerland and Chile. He was CEO of Holcim Brazil from 2002 until 2010, and Chairman of the Advisory Board of Holcim Brazil from January 2009 until October 2012.

He was a member of the Holcim Awards jury for Latin America in 2005.
