Laila Seewang is former Scientific Coordinator of the Academic Committee of the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction.
Laila Seewang is an architect with projects built in the United States and Australia. Her independent architectural practice works on a range of small projects, renovations, competitions, and she holds previous experience working in New York City for the offices of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners and Diane Lewis Architect.
She is an assistant in the Chair for the History of Art & Architecture, Professor Doctor Ph. Ursprung, at the Institute for the History and Theory of the Architecture, Department of Architecture, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich).
Her current research centers on the symbolic role played by infrastructural projects in reflecting the political, social and economic forces during periods of urban change.
She was previously Studio Director of Atelier de la conception de l’espace (ALICE), School of Architecture, Civil & Environmental Engineering (ENAC) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EFPL) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
She studied environmental design at the University of Tasmania, Australia, and architecture at The Cooper Union, New York; and Princeton University.
She has previously taught at Cornell University, The Cooper Union, GSAPP Columbia University, Princeton University, and Monash University in Melbourne, both in studios and in seminars on the history and theory of urban design
Laila Seewang has been published in Learning from Single Story Urbanism by Lars Muller, The New York Times and Landscape Urbanism.
