Marcella Hansch is Founder and CEO of Pacific Garbage Screening based in Aachen, Germany.

She is the inventor of “Pacific Garbage Screening”, a floating platform with a distinctive design that makes it possible to filter plastic particles out of the water.

She has also worked as an architect for CROSS Architecture and Carpus + Partner, both based in Aachen.

Marcella Hansch studied architecture at Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italy and completed a Master of Science in Architecture at RWTH Aachen University, Germany in 2013.

As part of her master's degree in architecture, she developed the floating garbage collection concept to dealt with the problem of marine pollution. The vision of Pacific Garbage Screening is to realize the technology that Marcella Hansch developed in her master’s thesis. This requires intensive basic research for which a non-profit association was founded in 2016.

She has received the Edition F Award 2017, the Future Impact Maker Award, and the German Federal Ecodesign Award in the category Young Talent.
