He was a further author of the Tsoga Environmental Center and Local Sustainability Catalyst in South Africa, which won the inaugural Holcim Foundation Awards 2005 Bronze for region Middle East & Africa. Tsoga Environmental Center and Local Sustainability Catalyst, South Africa

Tsoga Environmental Center is a community-service and recycling facility situated in a poverty-stricken informal settlement of Cape Town where the need for a normal community center pales in comparison to widespread socioeconomic despair.

As an expert in passive and low-energy construction, Paul Carew is responsible for planning and consulting on sustainable and innovative solutions for the MEP of office buildings, industrial facilities, and educational institutions.

He has more than 20 years of planning and consulting experience. In South Africa, he ran his own consultancy for sustainable building for 14 years before taking on an MEP leadership position at the engineering firm Buro Happold in Berlin five years ago. He was involved in well-known projects such as the Brainergy Park in Jülich and the planning of the LAD headquarters in Shanghai.

He studied mechanical engineering at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and later completed additional training as a Qualified Commissioning Process Provider at the University of Wisconsin Madison, USA. He is a regular speaker at national and international conferences.
