Sara Dean is Assistant Chair, Graduate Design, California College of the Arts (CCA) based in Oakland, CA, USA.

She is also Director of Partnerships at Stamen Design, a data visualization studio in San Francisco, and co-directs anexact office with Etienne Turpin.

Her research considers the implications of digital methodologies on urban interface, social justice and design practice. This work straddles architectural and communication scales and media.

She is a current Zero1 American Art Incubator Prize fellow in partnership with the Department of State and the Embassy of Indonesia.

She obtained both a Master of Architecture and a Master of Science in Design Research from the University of Michigan. She has taught previously at University of California (UC) Berkeley, University of Michigan, and the College of Creative Studies.

Sara Dean was a workshop expert on real-time/software in urban infrastructure at the 5th International Forum for Sustainable Construction dedicated to “Infrastructure Space” held April 7-9, 2016 in Detroit, USA.
