Tom Sherry is the Founder and Principal of consulting practice 313Creative based in Detroit, MI, USA.

He is an architect, urban designer and creative strategist who has practiced architecture and urban design for over 20 years, including 16 years at Hamilton Anderson in downtown Detroit where he served as Design Principal and Partner. His planning and design projects have been influential drivers in Detroit’s resurgence, including the Detroit School of Arts, the M1/Woodward Development Strategy, the Detroit Future City Strategic Framework and the East Riverfront Framework Plan.

In 2014, Tom Sherry founded the consulting practice 313creative and served as Senior Consultant to the Kresge Foundation, where he was responsible for aligning new investments with the Detroit Future City Implementation Platform. His recent work as an urban strategist includes real estate capital investment strategies, urban design framework plans and strategic planning for future-oriented organizations that make equitable investments in the built environment.

In addition to his advisory consulting practice, he serves as the Career Exposure Advisor for Michigan Architecture Prep, a University of Michigan (U of M) architecture studio program for high school juniors in partnership with the Detroit Public Schools. U of M hosts the program within a new design studio in Detroit’s Midtown Arts District.

A native and resident of Detroit, Tom Sherry received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture (1991), Masters of Architecture (1993) and the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for distinguished service (1993) from the University of Michigan. He was awarded the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Michigan Chapter Young Architect of the Year award in 2007.

He serves on the national Board of Directors for the Arts School Network (since 2009) and the Alumni Board of Governors for the Taubman College of Architecture & Urban Planning at the University of Michigan (since 2010). He also serves on the Advisory Board for the 2016 Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy (since 2015).
