Tammy Kit Ping Wong


Tammy Kit Ping Wong is a Doctoral Researcher in the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) based in Singapore.

Her research interests include geographical aspects of urbanization in Hong Kong from the perspectives of geography, urban studies and critical theories.

Tammy Wong received her Bachelor of Arts (Hons I) and MPhil in geography from the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), Hong Kong.

She has engaged in research projects on Hong Kong including: new town development; urban renewal and displacement in Tsuen Wan (2004-07); a community engagement project in Wan Chai (2007-2008); and homelessness and housing of urban poor in Sham Shui Po (2005-2007). She has been active in community development: an instructor in a community project of a rural area in Hong Kong (2009-2010); and a planning program of CapAsia in the Tsunami-affected villages in Sri Lanka (2008).

Her PhD research focus takes an overarching perspective in the understanding of urbanization processes in the emerging region of the Pearl River Delta in Southern China. The case study situates three cities, namely, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Dongguan, which are located at the eastern belt of the Pearl River Delta Region – and explores how these cities have been drawn to the emerging region and hence undergone rapid development over the past three decades, including the structural and scalar changes that contribute to the acceleration of urbanization processes or urban restructuring in the region.

Tammy Wong was a workshop expert on the implosion-explosion of the Pearl River Delta at the 5th International Forum for Sustainable Construction dedicated to “Infrastructure Space” held April 7-9, 2016 in Detroit, USA.
